Our Story
How MatchCrew was Born
The founding of MatchCrew is a story of brothers rolling up their sleeves to help their little sister. We often listened to our sisters
describe their frustrations with the inadequacies of traditional online dating sites. Some of these limitations included: the limited
matching capability of a computer algorithm; that people who were not serious about finding meaningful relationships could join
dating sites because there were no filters to measure quality; and that people were not accountable for their actions and often did
not respect the feelings of others.
At about the same time, we had the opportunity to see Andrea Jung, CEO of Avon Cosmetics, speak as a guest at the Stanford
Graduate School of Business. Avon sells all its products through six million independent business owners all over the world -
people that run their own small businesses selling Avon products. At the time of Andrea's presentation, the economy was in the
midst of a very deep recession, and unemployment was at historical highs. Andrea said that in the midst of this economic crisis,
the interest level in becoming an independent business owner was at an all-time high. 'Entrepreneurship is in.' she said.
We realized that there was a better way for singles to meet others. We understood that a method that would bring human
judgment and intuition back to the process of finding your perfect match was needed. The solution was to enable thousands of
entrepreneurial, energetic people to start and grow their own small matchmaking businesses, and then to connect them so that
they could work together. The concept behind MatchCrew was born.
